PFor the Royals it is a routine that is repeated promptly with every serious crisis at court, that of facing yet another media storm head-on and observing without batting an eyelid the ancient English adage of keep calm and carry on. Remain calm and carry on as if nothing had happened, is in fact the main directive from Buckingham Palace, and so they did Kate Middleton and King Charles III in their first public outing from the serious accusations that emerged in Endgame (Solferino).

Accused of racism in Endgamethe new book by Omid Scobie, alleged friend of the Sussexes, and identified as those who, in 2019, did jokes about the color of Prince Archie’s skin not yet born, Charles and Kate have shown more than ever that they are masters of that never complain, never explain (never complain, never explain), so dear to Elizabeth II. And taking care not to cancel two very important commitments on their official calendar, they carried them out without showing stress or concern.

King Charles, they say at court, did not want to allow this latest crisis to overshadow what is indicated as the most important commitment since his accession to the throne: its participation in COP28, which is taking place these days in Dubai. And it was he, a true pioneer in the fight for the environment, who gave the prestigious opening speech.

In Dubai for two days of important meetings, the sovereign appeared relaxed in the company of Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu who, shaking his hand warmly, asked him how he was.
