racing clubdirected by Fernando Gago, became the first semifinalist of the Professional Football League Cup on Tuesday by thrashing in the quarterfinals against Aldosivi 5-0. The Academy won with two goals from Carlos Alcarazanother two of Enzo Copettione of them from a penalty, and another from Xavier Correa.
Racing Club had been the best team in the first phase by winning Zone A with 30 points and remaining the only undefeated team in the tournament. Aldosivi, led by Martín Palermo, was fourth in Zone B with 20 points, product of six wins, two draws and six losses. The match was played at the Presidente Perón stadium, owned by Racing Club, as it was the team that finished in the best position in the previous phase.
In the other quarterfinal matchup, Boca Juniors beat Defense and Justice 2-0 thanks to a goal from the Colombian Sebastian Villa and another of Juan Ramirez and will play in the semifinals against Racing. The game was played at the Bombonera because Boca Juniors was the best placed of the two teams in the first phase. Xeneize was second in Zone B with 27 points and Halcón third in Zone A with 25.
The first goal was made by Villa at 41 minutes. Boca Juniors dominated without major shocks and got 2-0 after 78 minutes thanks to Ramírez, who had entered shortly before.
On Wednesday the last two games of these quarterfinals will be played: Estudiantes-Argentinos and River Plate-Tigre.
