Three dumped rabbits were found in the polder in Waalwijk last week. The animals were left in a cardboard box in a Lidl shopping bag. They were soaked, cold, thin and terrified.
Daniëlle from Waalwijk discovered the rabbits in the rain and took them home. These are young male rabbits, so-called rams, of about three or four months old. They were given a place in a dog crate with her.
Daniëlle quickly found shelter for one of the animals. She took the other two to the Maashorst Shelter in Zeeland. It looks like one of the animals has broken bones: it has ‘O-legs’ at the front. A veterinarian will check the animal.
The rabbits now have a name: Pix and Leo. Dumping is not the solution, the shelter emphasizes. “Putting an animal outside makes you just as guilty of animal abuse as actually abusing an animal.”
