Roxeanne Hazes threatens journalists that she will label it as ‘transgressive’ as soon as she receives a question about Rachel Hazes. “Yes, if someone still brings it up, I will see it that way.”
While her brother André Hazes Jr. is an open book – you can just ask him about the hassle with his mother Rachel Hazes and he will answer it – Roxeanne Hazes is extremely strict. She really doesn’t want to say anything about the family feud in the media and that is difficult; after all, it is one of the most popular news items in the country.
Restrictions
If Roxeanne appears anywhere in the media, she imposes restrictions prior to such an appearance. “I never say anything about the things going on in my life and I always make an agreement before interviews that I will not talk about family matters, because it determines how I feel the following week,” she says in the Grazia.
If a journalist does ask a question, she qualifies it as ‘transgressive’. And nowadays that is a life-threatening magic word that in the media world can easily lead to immediate dismissal.
Cross-border
However, Roxeanne threatens to do so anyway. “We have often talked about inappropriate behavior in the media in recent years. For me it is transgressive that someone still brings up the subject under the guise of: ‘Yes, but we need to talk about this.’”
“Who should do that? The viewers are completely fed up with it. Why would I talk about my family in the four minutes I get at a talk show table, while I have been working really hard on a new album. I come there to talk about my music, not to become clickbait on some showbiz channel.”
Problem
However, it is precisely that ‘clickbait’ that makes the show media so big and therefore offers an interesting platform for Roxeanne to promote her music. If the show media only consisted of articles about celebrities and their new CD, then of course there would no longer be a dog to read along. In the end it’s a bit of a give and take.
And Rox’s songs often contain a message, albeit a cryptic one? “That’s right, I also think I’m a very open person, but I try to keep things chic. I always assume that my child can read stories in the media later and I don’t want him to see things that make me think: I should not have said that.”
