Queen Máxima’s dressing up chest is overflowing with many couture dresses, hats and diadems. At NOS they all love that. They even prefer to dress her. “This is going too far.”

The amount of attention that NOS pays to our royal couple is traditionally somewhat excessive. It is no secret that the news broadcaster is quite royal-minded, but couldn’t following King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima be a little less? It literally costs the taxpayer millions of euros.

Royal obsession

Every state visit by Máxima and Willem is covered by the broadcaster as if it were an extremely important news event. And not with one camera crew, but with an entire battalion of employees. According to TV authority Tina Nijkamp, this is a typical example of waste of money at the public broadcaster.

According to Tina, the royal obsession of the NOS really costs a lot of money. “The NPO always sends expensive film crews on state visits of the Oranje. One from the NOS anyway. Why? For the archives and for the annual Oranje overview. That was broadcast on Saturday. Not many people watched: 204 thousand but at 8.10 pm on NPO 2.”

‘Cut back on that!’

In other words: according to Tina, people are not looking forward to that at all. “Less than what Blauw Bloed scores at that time,” she continues analysis channel. “There may still be some savings to be made at NOS.”

But wait a minute: one NOS team is going with Máx and Willem? A spy from Tina points out that the broadcaster sends no fewer than three (!) teams. “What I heard through a cameraman was: three NOS teams, namely events, radio and news. That was the trip to Suriname.”

More efficient

Unprecedented, Tina thinks. “Three NOS teams accompanied our king and queen to Suriname. Three! Plus an EO team. Four in total (namely also Blauw Bloed, ed.) for one trip. That could be a lot more efficient, I think.”

A little later she shares the proof: no fewer than twelve (!) people went to Suriname on behalf of the NOS, nine of whom from the events department, one from the radio department and two from the news department. For comparison: Blauw Bloed sent two people and so did RTL Nieuws.

Tina furious: “Why couldn’t the NPO make cuts if you sent 15 people to a state visit?!”
