Quarrel in front of the gate of application center Ter Apel

A disturbance broke out at the application center for asylum seekers in Ter Apel this afternoon.

This message first stated that someone had been arrested. That was based on reports from the police to the ANP. That information turned out to be incorrect. According to a spokesperson, someone was stopped, but it was subsequently decided not to arrest them.

The ANP reports that a photographer from the press service saw a group of more than a hundred asylum seekers who came to talk to a group of about ten other people. That group would have stolen things from them. There were blows and bags and beds flew through the air.

The quarreling groups have been separated.

It has been restless for a long time at the application center for asylum seekers in Ter Apel. Asylum seekers sleep outside the gates of the application centre. Last night was the busiest night ever with 200 to 250 asylum seekers sleeping outside. About forty asylum seekers slept in front of the gate from Friday to Saturday.

It is expected that people will have to sleep outside again next night. It is not yet clear how many people are involved. That says a spokesperson for the COA tonight. “We are still busy arranging places.” According to the spokesperson, an alternative reception place has been found for about 150 asylum seekers.
