Qmusic and Top 40 extend cooperation for ‘long time’ | show

Qmusic and the Dutch Top 40 Foundation have decided today to extend their long-term collaboration. The parties signed the new contract this afternoon. Qmusic makes that known.

Erik de Zwart, chairman of the Dutch Top 40 Foundation, says he is ‘very happy’ with the extension until 2030. ,,The collaboration with Qmusic is going very well, we were all served by a solution for the longer term,’ says De Zwart. “Qmusic is the market leader, especially among the younger target group. It is important that the most important Dutch hit parade is with the market leader.”

The hit list could be heard on Radio 538 from 1993 to 2018, but the love from that side has faded a bit in recent years, according to De Zwart. ,,We have now found a new relationship with Qmusic and we are very happy with it. It feels a bit like exchanging wedding rings,” the DJ jokes about the extension with the radio station. “The Top 40 is a baby, you have to handle it well, carefully and economically and Qmusic does that excellently.”

Due to corona, the presentation of the Top 40 Awards, created by Qmusic to honor the best listened artists, had to be held twice from Studio 21 in Hilversum. However, De Zwart hopes for a bigger stage for the next edition. “We have the ambition to book a larger hall with a slightly more audience,” he says. “I think this award has the potential to follow in the footsteps of the TMF Awards.”
