Torhout has been shocked by arson several times in the past two years. The last time was at the end of October. Then a car was set on fire in Lichterveldestraat at night. A house was also damaged.
The link was soon made with previous facts. For example, another apartment building was set on fire at the end of August 2025. In June 2024, the car of a local CD&V politician burned down. At the end of September, the man’s garden house also burned down, although the fire may have started accidentally. In 2023, someone deliberately set fire to three more cars. A perpetrator was never caught.
