Putin makes surprise visit to headquarters of military operation in Ukraine | War Ukraine and Russia

It is the second time in a month that Putin has traveled to Rostov-on-Don. He was returning from his official visit to Kazakhstan and was in the company of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of Staff and Commander of Military Operations in Ukraine Valeri Gerasimov.

Putin inspected the new military equipment and listened to reports on what is happening in Ukraine, the Kremlin said.

At the end of October, the Russian president was still in Rostov-on-Don, which is close to Ukraine, for a meeting with military officials about the Russian offensive. Putin previously visited the headquarters in August and March.

In June the city was also the scene of the short-lived mutiny of the Wagner mercenary army. The group then occupied the headquarters for several hours and advanced several hundred kilometers towards the Russian capital Moscow.
