Putin does not rule out tensions with Sweden and Finland

Russian President Putin does not rule out tensions with Sweden and Finland as those countries join NATO. He warned that Russia will react if NATO settles in those countries.

After years of neutrality, Sweden and Finland want to join NATO because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Turkey was the only member state to object to Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership, but an agreement was reached yesterday.

Putin said on Russian television that it is inevitable that relations between Russia and the two Scandinavian countries will deteriorate. “They need to understand that before there was no threat, but now, if military units and infrastructure are deployed there, we must repay in the same coin and create the same threats.”
