Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Kazakhstan on Thursday morning for a regional summit. Putin speaks on the sidelines of that summit with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar spoke with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoygu earlier this week. The two agreed that there should be a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Turkey has been trying to mediate between the two countries since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, with whom it has good relations.
Russia has carried out air strikes on Ukraine this week, and cities in the country were also hit by bombing on Thursday morning.
