Puma appoints Shirley Li as general manager of China

Puma has appointed Shirley Li as General Manager of China.

The appointment of the native Chinese as General Manager is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen business in this market, the Herzogenaurach-based sports goods manufacturer announced on Monday. Li will take up her new position on July 1st.

Li joined Puma earlier this year from Adidas, where she served as Vice President Wholesale. At Puma she previously worked in the role of Commercial Director. The sports goods manufacturer emphasizes that the designated General Manager for China has more than 20 years of industry experience and, according to the press release, in-depth knowledge of the Chinese market and Chinese consumers.

“I am delighted that we are opening a new chapter of Puma China under the leadership of Shirley,” said Puma CEO Arne Freundt. “I am very confident that under her leadership, our China business will rebound strongly, which is one of our three strategic priorities.”

Li follows in the footsteps of Philippe Bocquillon. He was Puma’s General Manager in China for more than ten years and is now moving to the position of Area Manager for Greater China, i.e. China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He also takes on the role of General Manager of Hong Kong. Both Li and Paul Yu, general manager of Taiwan, will report to Bocquillon.

David Lu will take over Li’s role as Commercial Director. Lu was most recently General Manager Retail at Levi’s and has been with Puma since March.
