The Herzogenaurach-based sportswear retailer Puma has launched a platform in collaboration with Manchester City that allows fans to create a jersey for the English professional football club based on artificial intelligence (AI).

The Puma AI Creator tool, created with the help of AI provider Deepobjects, gives fans the opportunity to design their dream jersey and take part in a creative competition, Puma announced on Tuesday. The winning jersey will become Manchester City’s third jersey next season and will also be available in stores.

“The Puma AI Creator is one of the ways new technologies are bringing fans closer to the sport they love,” explains Ivan Dashkov, Head of Emerging Marketing Tech at Puma. “Manchester City, as one of the most successful and prestigious clubs in the world, is the perfect partner for this groundbreaking platform. Together we are creating innovative and inclusive ways to engage fans.”

The new tool was tested for the first time by Manchester City players Ederson, Stefan Ortega and Rico Lewis, who together designed a special goalkeeper jersey inspired by the net of a football goal. This unique jersey, the first AI-produced football jersey to be worn on the pitch, will be available in a limited edition and will be seen later this season.

Participation in the fan competition is still possible until December 20th.
