Pulp has announced the release of their first album for 24 years: The Britpop heroes around Jarvis Cocker will publish their new work “More” on June 6, 2025. The preliminary “Spike Island” will be released today (April 10, 2025). A tribute to the Spike Island Festival, which the Stone Roses in 1990 really released. “More” was produced by James Ford (Blur, Depeche Mode).
Jarvis Cocker tells about the emergence of “more”: “Well when we toured again in 2023, we welcomed a new song called ‘The Hymn of the North’, before we played it at the end of the second evening in the Sheffield Arena. Ideas from the last century.
In fact, Pulp recorded the plate in just three weeks – a record for the band. And these freshness should reflect the eleven songs, some of which have already been presented live (such as “got to have love”).
Pulp – “Spike Island”:
The inspiration for “Spike Island” comes from co-author Jason Buckle (Relaxed Muscle), who was present at the Spike Island-Gig of the Stone Roses. A DJ has “Spike Island, Come Alive!” called into the microphone. With which he not only got on the nerves to the audience present. But also stood out in Jarvis Cocker’s head. Who was already writing the second song about Spike Island, although he was not present at the concert itself.
Pulp also share with: “No AI was involved in this process.” “More” is dedicated to the Pulp bassist Steve Macke, who died in 2023.
