Stevie Mackey, bassist for Pulp, is dead. He passed away at the age of 56. The band announced his death on social media this Thursday (March 2). The cause of death has not yet been announced.
“Our beloved friend and bassist Steve Mackey passed away this morning,” it said. “Our thoughts are with his family and those who love him.”
The posted photo shows Mackey hiking in the Andes, Pulp toured South America in 2012.

Even if Mackey’s cause of death is still unknown, it has been clear since October 2022 at least that the bassist would not be part of this year’s reunion tour. Mackay has been with the band since 1989, and on Instagram he wished his bandmates every success on the concert tour.
After the band, Mackey’s widow Katie also announced the death of her husband. She writes of a “three-month struggle in the hospital.” “Steve was the most gifted man I knew, an exceptional musician, producer, photographer and filmmaker”:
