PSV women go home empty-handed, FC Twente wins cup final 4-0

A bitter pill for the women of PSV. In the KNVB Cup final, they lost 4-0 to FC Twente, after a goal feast in the last minutes. And with that, Rick de Rooij’s team goes home empty-handed for the second year in a row.

At the start of the game, the women from Eindhoven held their own against the team that was clearly the favorite in the competition. The first chance was for PSV. After that there were opportunities for the club from Twente, but it was a long wait for the first goal.

Just before the break, FC Twente became more threatening. In the 41st minute it was hit. Thanks to a nice goal from Renate Jansen, the club took the lead. But after that PSV seemed to get back into the game. Chimera Ripa got the ball at her feet, but shot on the post. Exactly at the moment that PSV could smell the equalizer, Kim Everaerts of FC Twente scored the 2-0.

Goal fest
After that it was over and out for PSV. FC Twente striker Elena Dhont tapped in the 3-0 from close range. But the match was not over yet. Bente Jansen, who had just been substituted, scored the 4-0 immediately afterwards. After a bad throw in by the PSV keeper, she shot the ball straight into the net.

Lost cup final
With that, the PSV men succeeded, but the women did not manage to take the cup home. It was the third consecutive KNVB Cup final for the PSV women. Last year they lost to Ajax, the year before the Eindhoven club won from ADO Den Haag. FC Twente won the cup tournament in 2008 and 2015.
