Simons reported to Eindhoven on Tuesday for his medical tests and signing the contract, after which PSV sent out the message around midnight that Simons had been recorded.
Director of Football Affairs John de Jong indicates that PSV has put a lot of energy into the arrival of the Dutchman: „We have seen almost all matches this season in which he appeared at the kick-off. Besides all the international matches he played for the Orange squad, we saw him live in the Youth League in Leipzig, Paris, Bruges, Manchester and against Sevilla. In this he convinced us. Xavi has everything to grow into an important player for PSV. He would like to walk the path there with us.”
Simons indicates in a first reaction that he has become convinced of the sporting plan that PSV has for him. “I am really happy with the move to PSV. Myself and everyone around me is convinced of this choice.”
According to Simons, the conversations he had with director of football affairs John de Jong and trainer Ruud van Nistelrooy were of decisive importance in his choice. “I have a very good feeling about that. PSV is of course a big club. The ambition expressed by the management has made me even more enthusiastic. I spoke to the coach at an early stage and he told me a lot about the project the club has started. I know how he wants to play and how he sees my role in it. I’m at a point in my career where I need to start making minutes. That’s possible here. I am ready and want to prove myself.”
