PSV will have to make do without Ricardo Pepi for the time being. The American striker broke his forearm in the 5-1 win against Excelsior on Saturday and will need surgery, Peter Bosz said at the press conference after the match.
In minute 23 things went wrong for the striker. He scored the 2-0, but was unfortunate when scoring the goal and left in great pain. Peter Bosz shared the diagnosis after the match: “Ricardo Pepi has broken his forearm and will undergo surgery on Monday evening.”
It is not yet clear how long Pepi will be absent. “The fact that he is having surgery means that we have lost him for the time being,” Bosz said. This often involves a broken arm and a rehabilitation period of two months. The injury is a big laugh for the PSV trainer. He has also lost his other strikers Myron Boadu and Allasane Pléa for a longer period of time due to injuries.
And so Bosz has to puzzle again: “We will now have to solve it within our group and we succeeded quite well last time. Only Ismael Saibari is not there now either.” He is currently still at the African Cup of Nations. Another option is to enter the transfer market: “We will have to think about that. It just happened and I will speak to the people at the club tomorrow or Monday.” PSV could attract a new striker until February 2.
“I’m thinking about Pepi himself. A boy who has such a positive attitude and was working so hard. That things are going wrong for him at the moment. I’m sad for him.” Bosz actually saw an upward trend in the American: “I thought he was doing well again. He was completely fit again and became more consistent in his finishing. All lights were green to make it a great second half of the season.” Last season, Pepi was also sidelined for a long time with a knee injury.
