PSV failed to beat Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. The Eindhoven team managed to make it 1-0 via Guus Til, after which it completely collapsed. PSV scored the tying goal and had an excellent opportunity to score an equalizer, but the match ultimately ended 2-3. Due to this defeat, PSV is not yet certain of the next round Billion dollar ball.

Peter Bosz had changed his attack for this cracker in the Champions League. The hero of the match in Liverpool, Couhaib Driouech, replaced Ivan Perisic, who was not yet fit enough to start. Dennis Man also had to settle for a place on the bench, allowing Paul Wanner to appear from kick-off.

In the tenth minute, Driouech was cleared along the left sideline. The quick Moroccan went alone towards Atlético Madrid goalie Jan Oblak, but suddenly saw Guus Til appear next to him. Without a doubt he laid the ball off and Til pushed the ball into the empty goal. The Eindhoven striker is on target this season and has even been given his own ‘goal tune’ in the Philips Stadium, which was sang along en masse after the 1-0.

Driouech had his sights on edge in recent matches in the Champions League, but came face to face with Oblak again after the 1-0. However, he hit the ball completely wrong. Not much later he got the ball in the box again. Only this time he was way too sweet and wanted to pass the ball to a player in an offside position, while this seemed like a 100% scoring opportunity.

Atlético Madrid mainly had to rely on the revival of the strikers, Alexander Sørloth and Julián Álvarez. The former had a free heading opportunity, but was unable to get the ball behind goalkeeper Matej Kovar.

PSV collapses
The same Kovar wanted to pass the ball to Yarek Gasiorowski in minute 37. However, PSV’s Spanish defender did not realize what was happening around him and allowed the ball to be stolen. As a result, Atlético faced the goalkeeper with two men alone and Álvarez scored the equalizer.

After this, PSV completely lost it. Many mistakes were made in possession and yellow cards had to be taken to correct them. Fortunately for Peter Bosz there was rest shortly afterwards, so that he could organize his team well again for the second half.

That just didn’t quite work. Within ten minutes after the restart the score was already 1-2. A falling ball was shot at goal from 25 meters and stopped by Kovar, but Dávid Hancko, who came over from Feyenoord this summer, was quick to tap in the rebound.

When Sørloth scored the 1-3 a few minutes later, the feeling that there was still something to it had disappeared in the Philips Stadium. Atlético completely outpaced PSV at times and the Spaniards were also the dominant party in the duels.

Bosz tried to force something by bringing Ricardo Pepi and Ivan Perisic. And five minutes later, the Croatian headed a corner towards the substitute American, who tapped in and brought back the tension. Armando Obispo had another unmissable opportunity to score the equalizer, but unfortunately it was no longer possible for PSV. The match ended 2-3.

Important matches
Due to this loss, the Dutch champion is stuck at eight points and must therefore gain points against Newcastle United or Bayern Munich to reach the next round of the Champions League.
