PSV lost the away match against Stade Brest in the Champions League 1-0. The defeat caused the Dutch champion to fall further behind in the battle for the top eight places, which at the end of the main tournament give the right to a ticket for the eighth finals. PSV does keep an eye on positions 9 to 24. Clubs that finish there compete in an intermediate round for a place in the last sixteen.
Julien Le Cardinal took advantage of Stade Brest’s first chance (1-0) in the 43rd minute. PSV had already had four good opportunities for this. Marco Bizot, the Dutch goalkeeper of Stade Brest, responded attentively to goal attempts by Malik Tillman and Olivier Boscagli. The former FC Groningen and AZ goalkeeper also twice stood in the way of Luuk de Jong’s opening goal.
Ismael Saibari shot against the post on behalf of PSV in the second half. Goalkeeper Bizot tapped the ball against the post after a shot by substitute Pepi. Goalkeeper Walter Benitez saved PSV from conceding a second goal with a number of good saves.
