PSV keeps lurking at Ajax: “If they lose points, we will benefit”

PSV did what it had to do on Sunday afternoon. Winning against Willem II and therefore staying on four points from leader Ajax. Although the end is approaching and the chance of a national title is becoming smaller and smaller, they continue to believe in a beautiful ending in Eindhoven.

After the 4-2 victory against Willem II, Erick Gutiérrez and Roger Schmidt joined the press conference. Both men still had faith in a possible national title for PSV.

“If they lose points, we will benefit,” the Mexican said convincingly. “We focus on ourselves first, but Ajax knows that we are short. It’s four points, we still believe in it.”

“If there were no more faith, we wouldn’t be able to put away such a series”

“We haven’t lost since January. If there were no more faith, we wouldn’t be able to put away such a series. It’s a big challenge, but it’s still possible,” Schmidt told the press.

Not much to say about the game. PSV made it exciting for a while but eventually won easily. Afterwards it was mainly about the injuries of the Eindhoven players. Carlos Vinícius dropped out with a muscle injury and joins the full infirmary.

“You can’t compare all injuries”

“Carlos’ season is over. But you can’t compare all injuries. You have some long-term injuries and muscle injuries. With muscle injuries you should always look carefully at how this can be done. But some cases are just bad luck. Gakpo’s ankle injury could have happened to anyone.”

The physical trainer who had joined as a translator for Gutiérrez was of course also asked about the injuries, but did not want to respond. “I’m here as a translator,” Benjamin Kugel said with a laugh.
