“We were a bit unlucky with the draw,” was the conclusion of PSV coach Peter Bosz at the press conference after the elimination from the Champions League. “But we mainly let it go in the terrible match against Union Saint-Gilloise. If we had taken a point there, it would have been enough afterwards.”
PSV knew before the start of the Champions League that it would be a tough task to reach the intermediate round. In the first five games, the Eindhoven team picked up eight points, but they remained scoreless in the last three games. After the unused match points the elimination followed. Bosz: “I didn’t sleep well when I saw the draw. But afterwards I can say that we did not do well against Union. All in all, it was just not good enough.”
Bosz was disappointed on Wednesday evening after the 1-2 defeat against Bayern Munich. But he was also proud. “How we played on the field against Union was so much different than now, the team has undergone enormous development. Bayern was our best opponent, an absolute top club. The boys squeezed everything out, I can’t blame them. Nobody played below his level. They worked hard and when they had the ball, they played with courage and courage.”
According to Bosz, the fact that PSV did not choose to collapse after the 1-1, a world goal by Ismael Saibari, was a conscious choice. “We blinked and it was already 1-2 because of Kane. But I think that if we had chosen the strategy of running backwards, there would have been a completely different result on the scoreboard. You really shouldn’t get those guys into your sixteen-meter area.”
“If we take this level into account, it looks good.”
The elimination allows PSV to fully focus on the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup. “Of course it is a disappointment that we are not in the draw. It is my first time that we do not reach the next round. But if we take this level with this intensity to the rest of this season, then it looks good.”
When asked whether anything will happen in the transfer market in the coming days, Bosz was clear. “I would like to discuss tactics with you (the press, ed.), but I will not discuss transfers.”
