PSV is fined for riots, but wants the supporters to pay for it

UEFA is punishing PSV after supporters misbehaved in Lens. The club has to pay 25,000 euros because supporters threw things, caused destruction and set off fireworks. The club plans to blame the rioting supporters for this. The club will also receive a suspended sentence: if such an incident occurs again in the next two years, no PSV supporters will be allowed to attend the next away match.

Even before the match, emotions were running high in Lens, France. Riots broke out, first in the city and then at the stadium. The police used tear gas and batons.

During the match itself it happened again. They threw fireworks and tore down chairs, and then threw them in pieces at the section with Lens supporters. And, as is the way, they threw the chairs back.

For several minutes, chairs and fences were smashed. “You don’t want to see these kinds of things,” captain Luuk de Jong responded to the behavior. “It’s a small group that does that and they ruin it for others.” PSV does not have such a good reputation with UEFA.

Sanction
As a sanction, the club will receive a fine of 25,000 and a conditional ban on selling tickets for the next away match. If supporters misbehave like this again, the Eindhoven away fans will no longer be allowed to participate in the next match.

The club itself is certainly not happy with it and is taking measures to avoid this sanction, the Eindhovens Dagblad reports. Seven stadium bans have been issued, images have been requested of the riots during halftime of the match and the club actually wants to impose the sanction on the troublemakers.
