Still denied in the summer
Paris Saint-Germain can bring top talent Xavi Simons back from PSV Eindhoven next summer by clause. Marcel Brands, managing director of the Dutch runners-up, confirmed this possibility when publishing the annual report for the 2021/22 season without going into details. According to “Eindhovens Dagblad”, the sum that PSG would have to pay for the return of the 19-year-old offensive player is between 10 and 12 million euros, well above the 4 million euros estimated by the French media at the time of the transfer at the end of June.
PSV signed Simons on a free transfer after his contract in Paris expired and committed until 2027. Under coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, the right footer, who was already famous on Instagram before breaking through as a professional, immediately established himself as a top performer. To date, Simons has scored eight goals and four assists in 14 competitive games – he scored ten points in the Eredivisie alone, which is the top value for U21 players, level with Bayern’s Jamal Musiala (19) in the top 15 European leagues this season represents.
In September PSV had according to “VI” journalist Marco Timmer vigorously denied the existence of such a clause. Simons moved to Paris in 2019 from the youth of FC Barcelona under loud media background noise, but was subsequently unable to assert himself there in the professional team. The move home seems to have paid off in full so far. In the last market value update of the Eredivisie, Simons doubled his valuation to 8 million euros.
