After 9.5 years abroad, Shanice van de Sanden (33) returns to the Premier League at PSV. The fast right winger signs with the club for 1.5 seasons.
The attacker comes over on a free transfer from the Mexican Toluca and signs a contract until mid-2027. Van de Sanden will join Roeland ten Berge’s team during the preparation for the second half of the season.
Van de Sanden played 97 times for the Dutch national team and became European champion with the Dutch team in 2017. Between 2008 and 2016 she played 154 matches at the highest club level in the Netherlands for FC Utrecht, sc Heerenveen and FC Twente. She then played abroad for Liverpool, Lyon, Wolfsburg, Pachuca and Toluca. Van de Sanden won the Champions League three times with Lyon.
“Shanice is an extremely good football player. She combines speed with technique and that makes her very interesting for the team,” says technical manager Marco Knirsch of PSV women.
Title fight
The Eindhoven team is third in the Premier League, three points behind leader Ajax. With FC Twente and Feyenoord also still in the race, it promises to be an exciting title battle over the next six months.
“Of course we already have a good vanguard, but with her arrival we anticipate the departure of a lot of experience next summer,” says Knirsch. “With her mentality and infectious energy, Shanice is of great value to the team and to the pursuit of our ambitions.”
More big names
With the arrival of Van de Sanden, PSV adds another big name to the selection. The Eindhoven team also brought back Fenna Kalma earlier. Renate Jansen and Swiss international Riola Xhemaili also play for PSV.
