PSV still has two games to get three points in the Champions League. If they succeed, they will reach the next round of the million ball. The first chance to visit Red Star Belgrade awaits on Tuesday evening and PSV realize that it is the biggest chance. Especially since Liverpool will visit Eindhoven next week. And that is precisely the best team in Europe at the moment.
PSV did not travel to Serbia with much self-confidence. In the first three games of the season, the football was very poor and they had not won in 90 minutes. There was a new low on Saturday with a defeat at PEC Zwolle. So PSV is in a trough, right?
“I think that’s too strong a word,” Joey Veerman and Peter Bosz agreed. “I think the word dip sounds a bit friendlier,” Bosz added. “But this phase is unprecedented under my leadership.” The big question that remains. How do you get out of such a slump?
“We have to play boldly and with courage.”
“In recent days you have been talking a lot. Of course I see patterns that make things less successful. We start badly every time and concede a lot of goals from standard situations. We discuss those things. We have to go back to basics, because we have already shown that we can play good football this season. But you have to play daringly and with courage.”
That good football should be on display again on Tuesday evening. With two games to go, it is still a bit of a guess how many points are enough to end up among the first 24 teams in the rankings. “But I think three,” Bosz predicted. And so PSV will have to win one more time. From Red Star Belgrade or Liverpool.
“If you get opportunities in life, you have to take them.”
“Tuesday will determine whether you continue or not,” Veerman was clear. “Liverpool is the best team in the world at the moment. That’s going to be a difficult story. We will really have to do everything we can.”
Bosz agreed with his midfielder, but did not want to think too much about the match against Liverpool. “I always say that if you get opportunities in life, you should take them. Tuesday is a great opportunity.”
