PSG’s Julian Draxler loaned out to Benfica for a chance at the World Cup

Discarded in Paris

Benfica Lisbon have confirmed the signing of Julian Draxler (28). The Germany international, who no longer plays a role at Paris Saint-Germain and is in danger of losing sight of the World Cup opportunity, joins the Portuguese on a year-long loan. Apparently there is no purchase option. At PSG, the contract is valid until 2024, but the offensive player does not fit into the plans of new coach Christophe Galtier.

Benfica recently failed in their search for an attacking midfielder when trying to free Daichi Kamada (26) from Eintracht Frankfurt. Draxler can now prove himself at the highest level under coach Roger Schmidt in the Champions League and give his career new impetus. For Paris, even if there is no transfer initially, there is at least the possibility of saving the salary of the former Schalke player.

“I need to have more match practice towards the World Cup. I have to play more than this season,” Draxler commented on his situation at PSG back in the spring. Shortly afterwards, the reservist suffered a serious knee injury, but had only started five times in the championship round.
