PSG trainer Galtier arrested on suspicion of discrimination and racism

Paris Saint-German trainer Christophe Galtier was arrested in France on Friday on suspicion of discrimination and racism. That says the prosecutor of Nice to AFP news agency. It is an incident that would have taken place two years ago, when Galtier was still a trainer of OGC Nice. His son, John Valovic-Galtier, was also arrested on Friday.

In the 2021/2022 season, Galtier is said to have made racist and Islamophobic comments about the players in his team. He did so, according to French media, in an email to the management of the club. He allegedly stated that there were “too many black and Muslim players” in the team. He wanted to change the team thoroughly, emphasizing that he wanted to limit the number of Muslim players as much as possible. Galtier has denied the allegations, which first came to light in April this year. It is not known what exactly his son is suspected of.

Galtier is still coach of PSG, but it is expected that it will not be long before he is fired due to disappointing results. Although the French top club has become champion in its own country, it was eliminated early in the Champions League.
