Probably one of the most embarrassing CL finals of all time. Arsenal had no interest in playing football, from the sixth minute onwards they were just busy playing for time and had all their players in their own third
The fact that this team even made it to the final was mainly due to the completely easy route to the final. One can only be glad that Arsenal were not rewarded for this football and lost in the most dramatic fashion.
To assume that the best team in the league phase, which lost in a penalty shootout against the best team of the last two years, that they wouldn’t have gotten this far otherwise is an absolute denial of reality.
I don’t know if you’re 12 years old, but with Tottenham – Liverpool and Real Madrid – Liverpool (1-0) I can think of two CL finals that were much more boring. It was quite an exciting final and when Chelsea just showed off against Bayern, no one cared.
As long as football exists, teams like Arsenal will always play. I don’t think it’s nice to look at either, but acting like they have the patent on it seems very hateful 🤣
There has never been a team that only plays timed games from the 20th onwards and just puts themselves at the back even if there is a draw, 67!!!!! makes passes in a half, has less than 30% possession of the ball and whose entire offensive concept is set pieces. Even Chelsea were better in 2012 and I say that as a Bayern fan
Some people are really still stuck in 2010. Passes and possession of the ball mean nothing, that’s real fanaticism from Guardiola’s times. Bayern in particular can tell you a thing or two (most recently against PSG) that such numbers mean nothing.
Nevertheless, PSG were the better team today and deserved to win, even if not as clearly as you do. Out of the game, they didn’t score either and were under 1XG out of the game.
Anyone who seriously claims that Arsenal weren’t one of the best teams in Europe this year simply doesn’t know anything about football. You don’t have to like this football, I don’t either. Nevertheless, you should stick to the facts.
If you start mentioning meaningless numbers/arguments (like the tournament tree), you shouldn’t be surprised if banal statements also come up. PSG has now played a disastrous group stage twice and still won, thanks to the new system. Does that mean they don’t deserve to be winners? Yes, they deserve it.
If you look at the teams and their respective leagues, PsG, Bayern and Arsenal were the three best teams in Europe. At PSG it even plays a role that they progressed against Bayern thanks to the referee.
A look into the past and we see in the last 10 years, 6 teams that won the CL without becoming champions. Including the legendary final of Liverpool against Tottenham, neither of whom won the league, and Liverpool in 4th!!! CL winner.
If we now start to select legitimate and deserving winners/final participants in a knockout system, we will go crazy relatively quickly because knockout systems start every round at 0.
Congratulations to PSG. Even though I hate the club, from a purely sporting perspective the team is simply great and their character has developed enormously if you look at paredes&co. Remembered from before.
Congratulations to Arsenal. They had a fantastic season in the CL and PL and if they upgrade their attack, they will certainly be among the favorites in the coming seasons.
