Prussia Münster surprisingly separates from his trainer after five years. A decision that is not alone in the 2nd Bundesliga, but raises a question.

Two years ago in April, SC Prussia Münster traveled to Rödinghausen and Düren in the Regionalliga West. In the past few weeks, the travel destinations in the 2nd Bundesliga were called Düsseldorf and Cologne. Münster owed this fast -paced coach Sascha Hildmann, to whom the direct march from the fourth -class regional league succeeded in the second highest division.

Thomas Wörle performed the same feat with SSV Ulm. He also led his team from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga in two years.

Despite these successes, both had to go in the middle of the relegation battle. Wörle in March, Hildmann yesterday. It quickly becomes clear that you failed because of your own success. A curious state that is a symbol for today’s football and raises the question: Would you be with less success, without a direct march to the 2nd league, still in office today?

The promotion from the regional league to the 3rd league was a clearly explained goal for both Münster and Ulm, but the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was a big surprise. Because the squad of both clubs had hardly changed. Nevertheless, Hildmann and Wörle and their teams succeeded.

And it was precisely this to do so. Two seasons in the secured third division middle field would hardly have been a reason for dismissal. After all, they would have stabilized their teams after promotion from the regional league in the 3rd league. Due to the direct promotion to the Bundesliga sub-house, the situation changed fundamentally.

Because for clubs on the size of Münster and Ulm, the 2nd league is a honey pot, of which you no longer want to stop. Instead of around 1.2 million euros in TV money in the 3rd league, there were around 7.3 million euros in the 2nd Bundesliga this year. So everything is tried to keep the class. This also includes unpleasant decisions such as the discharge of the long -term success coach.

Ulm was the penultimate in the table at the time of the Wörle end, had four points behind the relegation place.

Münster has been penultimate since Saturday, tied with Ulm on the relegation place. The fear of relegation of the sporting management was so great that the club pulled the ripcord and exempted Hildmann to give a new impulse.

In both cases, a decision that is difficult to understand in view of the entire work – and yet the short -term can be correct if the season goal is still being relegated. In the case of SSV Ulm, the trend under Wörle successor Robert Lechleiter has so far been positive. Nevertheless, it feels like an unworthy end. Because once again, dear money determines which decisions are made.

And if you end up with the success coach and without relegation, the officials also have to ask themselves whether the money may not have made them a little blind.
