Proximus uses electricity poles for fiber network roll-out in Wallonia | Inland

Telecom operator Proximus uses electricity poles for the roll-out of its fiber network in Wallonia. The telecom company has signed a new agreement for this with the Walloon electricity network operator Ores, it announced on Monday.

The two companies have been working together since 2008, using the poles to bring fiber to the street cabinets. This is now being extended to the connection of the customer.

This solution has already been tested in Namur and is particularly suitable for the roll-out of fiber in less densely populated areas. “The agreement between Proximus and Ores will bring fiber benefits faster to homes and businesses in Wallonia, while minimizing disruption to local residents, as demonstrated by a recent successful pilot project in Bouge,” Proximus said in a press release on Monday. .

Fiber allows very fast surfing, streaming and gaming and is therefore suitable for both individuals and professionals. Proximus aims to provide 70 percent of Belgian homes and businesses with this technology by 2028. Its multi-gigabit network will also be open to other telecom operators.
Financial details of the deal with Ores are unknown.
