For families there are extra assets: a play forest, a natural play zone and an observation hut for bird spotters. Mountain bikers can switch between the routes of Roeselare and Wevelgem. The construction of pools, wood edges and grasslands increases the ecological value. The management of the grasslands is done in collaboration with local farmers.
“With the Ledegemse Mesen we add a unique piece of wet nature to our provincial domains,” says Deputy Jurgen Vanlerberghe, competent for the environment, nature and landscape. “It is a place where children can play, nature lovers can spot birds and walk walkers – all in the middle of a landscape that at the same time buffers water and recovers nature.”
