Allowing people to live permanently in holiday homes. The province sees no point in this plan by Minister Mona Keijer (Housing) and calls it ‘unrealistic’ and ‘unfeasible’. “It is a false solution to the housing shortage, while it will lead to undesirable situations in many parks,” said Deputy Wilma Dirken (Housing). The province calls on the minister to reconsider her plan.

According to Dirken, living and recreation at a holiday park do not go together. The parks become less attractive to tourists and this can result in deterioration, crime and an increase in illegal activities.

‘Really undesirable’
“It attracts vulnerable groups, such as migrant workers, which will further worsen the situation. Moreover, the living situations in various parks are so dire that it is really undesirable to legalize them,” says the director.

She points out that many holiday parks are located close to nature reserves or defense sites and are therefore unsuitable for permanent residence. It is not a real solution to the housing shortage and it causes problems for the tourism sector and local communities, says Dirken.
