The province of Drenthe will invest more than 10 million euros in the development of villages and towns. From 1 October 2025, municipalities can apply for a subsidy.
5 million euros has been reserved for the new Dorp renewal subsidy scheme. This scheme focuses in particular in smaller places and supports social and physical initiatives that promote “the quality of life and community power in Drenthe villages”, the province writes.
Deputy Yvonne Turenhout (PvdA) adds: “Livable villages are the power of Drenthe. That is why we will be fully committed to strengthening our villages in the coming years. With this scheme we will give a boost to facilities and community sense.”
With the Grote Kernenfonds, the province supports plans in the five large cores: Roden (municipalities of Noordenveld), Beilen (Midden-Drenthe), Coevorden, Klazienaveen (municipality of Emmen) and Zuidlaren (municipality of Tynaarlo). They receive support for projects that prevent vacancy, attract new activities and ensure an attractive range of shops, catering and facilities.
In addition, the province continues with the approach to the Regional Cities Fund and is investing 4 million euros in the strengthening of the inner cities of Emmen, Assen, Hoogeveen and Meppel.
Deputy Willemien Meeuwissen (VVD): “If I walk through Drentse inner cities, I see how important a lively city center is. Not only for the people who live there, but also for the people who work there, or visit the region. With the Regional Cities Fund we help Emmen, Assen, Hoogeveen and Meppel to live and meet.”
