Providers of elderly care send urgent letter: shortage of more than 100 million is imminent

In an urgent letter to Minister Helder (Long-term Care), 27 northern elderly care organizations warn about the financial problems that are emerging in the sector. They fear a further erosion of care for the elderly.

Together, the 27 organizations expect to be short of more than 100 million euros in the budget in 2024. They call on the minister and the House of Representatives to come up with a solution in the fifteen weeks leading up to Budget Day.

The urgent letter was signed by the directors of 27 organizations in Groningen, Drenthe and Friesland. Together they represent approximately 30,000 clients and an estimated 30,000 employees and volunteers.

According to the organizations, the problems are much broader than just the Northern Netherlands. In the rest of the country, too, there is less and less money for real estate in elderly care and there are higher expenditures for energy and wage demands.
