Former French world champion Benjamin Mendy changes from FC Lorient to FC Zurich. The 30-year-old receives a contract with the Swiss first division club until 2026. “Of course, we are very pleased and also a little proud that we were able to sign such a top-class player. He will also be an important support for our young players, ”said FCZ President Ancillo Canepa.
In the summer of 2023, Mendy switched to Ligue 1 after prior acquittal in the process for allegations of rape to Lorient – the club relegated to the French lower house in summer. The once 57.5 million euro left-back was charged in August 2021 and then suspended by ex-club Manchester City. The Citizens were asked to pay Mendy in the millions by court order. The professional accused his former employer of wrongly stopping the payment of his monthly salary after he was arrested in August 2021 due to alleged sexual offenses. After two legal proceedings, Mendy had been acquitted by all allegations.
