In the crowded and trendy segment of medium-displacement maxi-scooters, Sym offers the Cruisym α 300, a vehicle that manages to mix an attractive design and a lively engine with an excellent price thanks to its € 5,799 cost. A scooter that is interesting on paper. But how will it behave on the road?

how is it done?

The Cruisym α has a strong and sporty design. Sharp lines and an aggressive front are the first aspects that catch the eye from the first glance. In the front, the full-led lights and some carbon-like details stand out that embellish not only the shield, but more parts up to the rear. Seen from the side, the Cruisym is appreciated for its well-proportioned lines and for its recognizable style that is never over the top. The saddle offers plenty of space for both the rider and the passenger and can count on two practical grab handles for optimal grip. The compartment under the saddle is very well-kept, which is illuminated and can accommodate two helmets, one of which is integral. On the back of the front shield, a compartment has been created with a USB socket to recharge a smartphone or navigator. The instrumentation relies on a large, easy-to-read color LCD screen which, however, is not exactly that rich in information, for example lacking the data on average consumption. On the left of this screen, on the other hand, we find all the service lights which, if lit, indicate any malfunctions.

Sym Cruisym α 300. Engine and chassis

The Sym Cruisym α 300 is powered by a 278.3cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine capable of delivering 26 hp at 7,500 rpm. The torque is instead of 26.2 Nm at 6,750 rpm. As for the chassis, we find a fairly standard configuration for a maxi scooter: steel frame, traditional 41 mm fork and double rear shock absorber with adjustable preload. The overall length is 2,175mm, with the saddle 760mm from the ground. The braking system instead relies on a 260 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear one with ABS system. Furthermore, the saddle is only 760 mm away from the ground and this ensures that even those who are not particularly tall can touch the ground easily.

Sym Cruisym α 300. How are you doing

In the saddle of the Cruisym 300 Alpha you are comfortable and collected. The handlebar is perhaps a little too close to the body due to the fairly bent arms. Brilliant in the shot at the traffic lights, this Sym performs well both in the city and on country roads. Good absorption of the roughness of the road in the city while on the fast flowing ones it proved to be stable and well controllable. The fork works correctly even if it is not supported so well by the rear axle, an aspect that unfortunately limits the comfort of the rear passenger a little. The performances, especially at the start, are brilliant with an engine that responds present whenever it is called into question. An engine that has an excellent delivery that is always full-bodied even at high speeds, a situation in which it also makes its voice heard more strongly. In the city, despite its not-so-compact size, the Cruisym 300 proved agile even in rush hour traffic. The standard windshield (adjustable with tools) offers good protection from the air up to the torso, while the neck and face remain a little more exposed to turbulence. The traction control is also standard, which can be excluded using a special button on the left block. A very minimally invasive system that can be useful in situations of poor grip such as rain. For the rest in daily use it is rarely called into question.

fittings and prices

Sym Cruisym α 300 is available in a single version and in 4 colors: White, Matt Black, Cloud Gray and Pacific Blue. The list price is 5,799 euros fc which goes down to 5,099 euros thanks to the promotion in force until 30 June 2022.

strengths and weaknesses

  • Like it: value for money that rivals the competition. Brilliant engine and bold design.
  • Do not like: some information is missing in the dashboard such as average consumption, braking can be improved.
