Program Champions League: these are the eighth finals, including PSG – Bayern Munich | Foreign football

The Champions League is back after three months of absence. With a cracker of jewels tonight: Paris Saint-Germain – Bayern Munich. These are the eighth finals.

February 14th

AC Milan – Tottenham Hotspur
Two teams looking for confidence in the Champions League. AC Milan ended a bad series of seven games without a win against Torino (1-0) last weekend. The reigning champion disappoints with a fifth place in Serie A. Spurs, which strengthened this winter with Arnaut Danjuma, is fifth in the Premier League and suffered a hard defeat at Leicester City last weekend: 4-1.

Paris Saint Germain – Bayern Munich
The repeat of the 2020 final (1-0 for Bayern) is the cracker of this round. PSG lost the group win on the last day of play to Benfica. Bayern won all six group matches in a group with Inter and Barcelona. The German Rekordmeister is back after a difficult start to the year leader in the Bundesliga. Bayern misses the injured Manuel Neuer and Sadio Mane. Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé are not fully fit at the home club.

15 February

Borussia Dortmund-Chelsea
Borussia Dortmund, who finished second in the group behind Manchester City, seems ready for the resumption of the Champions League. The team where former Ajax player Sébastien Haller is back after his recovery from testicular cancer has won five times in a row and is now third in the Bundesliga. Opponent Chelsea is still in a crisis. Hakim Ziyech’s team is standing alone tenth in the Premier League. Chelsea threw money in the past transfer window. For example, Noni Madueke was bought from PSV. Unlike Ziyech, who missed a transfer to PSG, he is not registered for the Champions League.

Club Brugge – Benfica
Club Brugge is working on its best CL campaign in club history. Noa Lang’s team impressed in the group stage with victories over Leverkusen, Porto and Atlético Madrid. In its own league, however, Club is not doing well. Under the new trainer Scott Parker, the reigning national champion won only one of the seven games. The Benfica of ex-PSV coach Roger Schmidt, Fredrik Aursnes (former Feyenoord) and David Neres (former Ajax) is proudly at the top in Portugal.

February 21st

Eintracht Frankfurt-Napoli
With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as one of the eye-catchers, Napoli is one of the most attractive teams in Europe at the moment. The leader of the Serie A was twice too strong for Ajax in the group stage. Napoli became group winner ahead of Liverpool and seems to be unable to miss the national title this season. Frankfurt is the reigning Europa League winner and is also doing well this year. The Germans left Sporting and Marseille behind.

Liverpool-Real Madrid
A repeat of last season’s finale. Then Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stood in the way of Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool’s victory. Whether the Reds can get that far again is the question. Despite the 2-0 win over Evertonwith the first goal from Cody Gakpo, Jürgen Klopp’s team is only standing ninth in the Premier League. Defending champion Real Madrid was crowned world champion with the clubs last weekend, but things are not going well in the Bernabéu either. Real has 11 points behind leaders Barcelona.

February 22

Internazionale – FC Porto
The Inter of Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries kept Barcelona out of the eighth finals. De Vrij was in the starting line-up against Sampdoria (0-0) this week, Dumfries came on as a substitute for the team that was named after 22 games. number two in Serie A no less than 15 points less than Napoli. Porto is also second in its own country, 5 points behind Benfica.

RB Leipzig-Manchester City
Germany’s Leipzig already beat City in the group stage last year and finished second behind Real Madrid by one point this season. So Nathan Aké and co have been warned. In the Bundesliga, Leipzig has been running a little less in recent weeks. The loss of the injured Christopher Nkunku weighs heavily. Manchester City easily became group winners, but has a tough job in the Premier League leader Arsenal. Leipzig is also the favorite opponent of Erling Haaland, who has already scored six times against the Germans in his career.
