Cristian Muñoz crashes at the Tour du Jura – the accident ends in drama. His team then draws conclusions.
Professional cyclist Cristian Muñoz has died at the age of 30. The Colombian was seriously injured last Saturday at the Tour du Jura in Switzerland and subsequently succumbed to medical complications. The Colombian federation confirmed his death on Friday.
Muñoz suffered a serious knee injury in the fall. According to media reports, sepsis then developed. His condition worsened and even an operation brought no improvement.

Most recently, Muñoz drove for Team Nu Colombia. He previously worked for UAE Emirates-XRG for three years – the same team for which top cycling star Tadej Pogačar also rides. Both joined together in 2019. Munoz won a stage in the junior edition of the Giro d’Italia 2018.
“His death leaves a huge void in Colombian cycling and in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him and spending time with him on the tracks and in competitions,” the Colombian federation wrote in its statement. “Cristian will be remembered for his dedication, discipline and humanity inside and outside the peloton.”
Nu Colombia withdrew from the Tour of Asturias after the news of his death. The race started on Thursday. The remaining drivers honored Munoz with a minute’s silence.
