Product of the week: the quilted coat

What it is about

This cozy coat trend has established itself as an indispensable piece of clothing for all seasons. There are light models for the summer months and thick, lined versions that are perfect for the colder days. The quilted coat is not only practical, but also a stylish alternative to anorak or bomber jacket. The trendy coat is available in a wide range of different models – from sleek silhouettes to more heavily lined versions – so there is something for every taste.

Why the coat is a good choice

Quilted jackets experience a revival year after year, with each new season bringing new and more modern versions of the trend. The design can be worn in both warm and cold seasons, with numerous options to suit many different tastes. Lighter versions of the coat are ideal for the warmer seasons than a thin layer for the colder summer days. In autumn and winter, thickly lined models in darker colors are the better option.

Where we saw him

The quilted coat was very present on the FW21 season catwalks and is a popular option for this winter and beyond. The fact that the trend will remain in 2022 is confirmed by the designers’ picking up on the style: inside. Some variations on the on-trend coat were dramatic, such as the models by Marni and Rick Owens who opted for oversized silhouettes. Owens’ design also had a flowing train that pulled across the floor. Ambush also presented an oversized version of the coat, but in a more everyday format. The daring design was emphasized by large, lined details that look more exaggerated than the typical quilting technique. The Italian fashion house Miu Miu showed a unique approach to the topic and presented a two-piece suit consisting of a coat and pants that used technology throughout. The label used the so-called “onion quilt” method, a quilting technique in which the shapes are reminiscent of onions.

How to style it

The styling of the quilted coat can vary depending on the season. For winter, a cable-knit sweater in a neutral shade and high-waisted trousers can be combined with a calf-length coat in a dark color. With lace-up boots and accessories made of wool, the look stays casual and warm – ideal for cooler days. For the warmer months, a light jacket with less padding is recommended for a stylish outfit. On cloudy summer days it can be worn as a thin layer to cover. For example with a summer dress that is combined with a quilted jacket and simple trainers – perfect for day and night.

The numerous shapes of the quilted coat mean that it can be continued from season to season with just a few changes in its appearance. It’s a classic look that has been refined over and over again and has become a staple of the wardrobe in both summer and winter.
