Product of the week: metallic pieces

What is it:

Metallic clothing formed a popular trend on the Spring/Summer 2023 catwalks. From suiting to structured dresses, the creatives experimented a lot in exploring this trend. Materials with a metallic effect are usually knitted with metallic yarns or printed or finished with metallic colors. The result is a fabric that can be changed a lot, which is why it stands out in the collections with voluminous shapes or silhouettes. In retail, metallic pieces offer a highlight for the shop window that is suitable for everyday use and special at the same time and fits into almost every wardrobe.

Why you should order it:

Clothing with metallic effects is a great addition to any wardrobe. However, for customers who prefer to stay in their comfort zone, it can be difficult to combine them. This season, many designers have therefore experimented with the design, often in very bold combinations. For retail, they’ve simplified the trend into pieces that are more down-to-earth and therefore easier to style. Nevertheless, the material still appeals to the braver clientele and can captivate them with trend-oriented styling. Compared to the metallic trends of the past, the current items have also been given a more modern touch.

Where we saw it:

For Spring ’23, metallics featured prominently in the collections of menswear labels, using them for smart pieces and accessories. The material was used in multi-piece suits at the shows by Giorgio Armani, Vtmnts and Bianca Saunders, who each opted for striking silver metallic looks for complete outfits. A special theme was the iridescent metal, which was taken up in the collections by Rick Owens and David Koma, both of whom worked with this material in complete looks. In women’s fashion, the shade was given a more feminine touch. While Simone Rocha showed complexity in a ruched silhouette, Isabel Marant used the fabric for tiny shorts and shiny fitted dresses.

How to style it:

Metallic tones work best with color blocks that reflect the nuances of the piece. Silver metallic tones, for example, often feature hints of pink and blue, tones that can then be used in the rest of the look. For metallic pants, opt for colorful shirts or plain white t-shirts to accentuate the metallic effect. Or go all out with a jacket in a matching material for a bold, eye-catching look. Metallic dresses, on the other hand, can be completely independent and combined with simple accessories and shoes.
