In Tilburg, hundreds of people will participate in a procession on Wednesday evening to commemorate the 10-year-old Anne-roos. The Tilburg girl was hit by a car while cycling last Tuesday. She died from her injuries. To celebrate her life, a procession of honor started at seven o’clock.
“It is a tour of honor, not a silent tour,” Rick explains on behalf of the organization of the tour. “Anne-roos was a lively and energetic child. A silent journey would not suit that.”
Many people walk with a lantern and a flower. Among them were also members of the Carnival association De Blauwwituilen from Goirle, where Anne-roos was a youth councilor.
Participant Serbia is also a member of the Carnival Association and participates with mixed feelings. “It is of course very nice that there is such a large turnout, but we would rather not have had to stand here. She was a welcome member of our carnival association,” he explains. “She will be missed.”

Artificial roses are hung on lampposts in various places. The procession goes via Heuvelstraat, Nieuwlandstraat, Central Station and Lange Nieuwstraat towards the Lumenplantsoen. There, flowers are placed in the fence of the Tiliander primary school, where Anne-roos went to school. Acting mayor Onno Hoes will talk to participants there.
“It’s impressive,” Hoes begins. “Because the parents did not want a silent procession, but a procession of honor. There is singing, music and laughter. That was also the case in Anne-roos’ life. A week ago she was still with us and a week later she was no longer.”
The turnout in Tilburg is high and the acting mayor has an explanation for this. “Everyone may think: could this have happened to me too? It comes close and there is great solidarity.”

Help was to no avail
Anne-roos was seriously injured in an accident on Dillenburglaan in Tilburg last Tuesday. She was riding her bicycle when she was hit by a car. After the accident, the emergency services responded en masse to the accident. The girl was taken to hospital under police escort, where she died.
In the organization’s speech on Wednesday, it was said that the family is not angry with the driver of the car.
