The problems with the supply of drinking water in Hoogeveen (Drenthe) are largely over. Severe weather caused damage to the water network in various places during the night from Friday to Saturday. Water company WMD announced on Saturday evening that the situation is “largely under control”.

“Thanks to the efforts of our colleagues and technical measures, drinking water production is being restored and sufficient drinking water is available again,” WMD said. “We will continue to monitor the situation and work where necessary.”

The biggest problem was damage to a transport pipeline for the supply of groundwater, which WMD uses to make drinking water. This temporarily halved the supply of groundwater.

Because of the disruptions, the drinking water company had called on residents to be economical with water and, for example, not to fill large swimming pools or water gardens. In the evening, WMD thanked everyone who responded.
