Under a gray sky, grab machines crushed the floats that shone on Sunday and Monday in Zundert. “That’s how it should be,” Arno Broscems responds from the winning neighborhood of Tiggelaar. “We have performed to the maximum, a lot of partying and then this is a good end to the corsose season. Next year we will be back with something new.”
Without realizing it, builder Arno aptly describes how their winning floats, with a phoenix, is destroyed to rise again later. The phoenix is a mythological figure in the form of a bird that burned himself to ashes in its nest to appear again later.
“This is the end of the story,” says Arno. “We will just come back next year, but with a completely different car. That is also how things have happened in Zundert. I feel no sadness, rather relief. We have worked hard and achieved a fantastic result with both the public prize and the jury prize.”

Yet the breaker is not intended for the head of the prize -winning phoenix this gray day. The head with beak flies through the air again this morning and ends on the back of a loading truck.
“We still have some precious technology in the head,” explains Arno. “We want to get it carefully. After that she might get a place of honor, but then it is really over. Her feathers of flowers are slowly starting to wilt.”
“All precious technology is out of the car. It becomes more advanced and more expensive every year.”
Builder Peter van Oers also looks satisfied at the demolition work. The party glitter of the past few days are still on his face. “All precious technology is out of the car. It becomes more advanced and more expensive every year. It was fun and I enjoyed it again. But I am also happy that there is now some rest after months of building.”
The other builders also see the demolition of their cars left. “It actually feels pretty nice,” responds Bouwer Jarno van Rijen. Now that he says so, he feels the need to contribute to the demolition work and takes a hammer. He sells his car a big blow with all its power, but it doesn’t seem to shrink.
Even in the resit, only a small dent appears in the hull and some flowers whirl down. After being laughed at by other builders, he notes: “an excellent quality”, and he leaves the work to the demolition machines.
