Private funeral service: Franz Beckenbauer buried in Munich

Franz Beckenbauer was buried on Friday at the Perlacher Forst cemetery in the southeast of Munich. The football legend died last Sunday at the age of 78.

Franz Beckenbauer was buried. The late football legend was buried on Friday in the cemetery at Perlacher Forst in a small circle as part of a private funeral service. Beckenbauer was buried in the grave of his parents Antonie and Franz, diagonally opposite is his son Stephan, who died in 2015 at the age of 46.

Beckenbauer memorial service on BR television

Beckenbauer died on Sunday after a long illness at the age of 78, surrounded by his family. The BR television will broadcast the official memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer in the Allianz Arena live on January 19th from 3 p.m.

Munich’s Bundesliga game against TSG Hoffenheim on Friday evening is also dedicated to remembering the emperor. As in all German stadiums, Beckenbauer will be remembered with a minute’s silence in Munich this weekend, and the players from both teams will also wear mourning ribbons.

“Good Friends” as goal music

The Bayern professionals will also warm up with the iconic number 5 and wear a special jersey with the inscription “Thank you Franz” during the game. After the game, the shirts will be signed and auctioned off. All proceeds will benefit the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation.

When the team arrives and every time the Munich team scores, Beckenbauer’s song “Good Friends” is played, and scenes from the life of the world champion from 1974 (player) and 1990 (team manager) are shown on the screens. FC Bayern also invited numerous of the Emperor’s companions.
