Private consumer spending rose faster than inflation in 2022

The abolition of most of the Corona restrictions and the significantly increased inflation drove up people’s spending in Germany last year.

On average, private households spent 2,846 euros on consumption per month, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Wiesbaden, which was 8.5 percent or 223 euros more than in the previous year.

The increase was stronger than the increase in consumer prices, which rose by an annual average of 6.9 percent. (dpa)
