Privacy watchdog threatens to ban smart cameras: “They are used for wrong purposes”

The Flemish privacy watchdog has warned local authorities against the careless use of smart ANPR cameras, which recognize license plates and are often used to monitor speed devils and cut-through traffic. That’s what De Standaard writes. According to the watchdog, the cameras may not be used to gain financial benefits. They threaten them with a ban if the guidelines are not adhered to.
