The Judicial Institutions Agency (DJI) is investigating a possible data breach in the prison in Vught. It is suspected that a prisoner had access to the criminal file of another prisoner when he opened a laptop. One of the prisoners is staying in the Extra Secure Institution (EBI).
Both prisoners have a so-called risk status, State Secretary Claudia van Bruggen (Justice and Security, D66) reports in a letter to the House of Representatives.
With a laptop, detainees can normally only view their own criminal files. The device will then be turned off and the history will disappear. The procedure may not have been followed properly last Thursday, the State Secretary writes.
Data breach notification
The DJI has informed all parties involved, including the Public Prosecution Service. If the investigation shows that the detainee has indeed had access to someone else’s data, the DJI will report a data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
