The stabbing took place on September 28, 2024. De Beverwijk (29) stabbed a postman in the stomach out of nowhere at Europaplein in Heemskerk after he wanted to rob him.
The postman was left with a cut in his abdomen about an inch deep. That came because the knife broke with the first stab movement against the phone in the inside pocket of his PostNL jacket.
Aggravated assault
Although the wound was not too bad considering the circumstances, the court found the suspect guilty of attempted serious assault.
According to the court, the victim was lucky: he could have suffered serious injuries. ‘The stabbing incident must have been very frightening for the victim. The fact that it happened in broad daylight on public roads generally causes feelings of fear and insecurity in society,” the court said.
The suspect from Beverwijk said after his arrest that he could not remember anything about the assault. He said he was ‘angry and confused’ that day. His ex-girlfriend allegedly threatened him and he had had ‘a few beers’. According to him, he had also recently been diagnosed with PTSD.
