Princess Beatrix visits Enkhuizen in the first sailing trip on De Groene Draeck since major maintenance

Princess Beatrix was spotted today on the IJsselmeer in De Groene Draeck. The sailing yacht had been taken out of service since September 2021 due to major maintenance. The princess sailed from Stavoren to Enkhuizen yesterday, the Royal House reports.

Photos and a video from the Twitter account of the Royal House show how the waving princess is at the helm of the sailing yacht. De Groene Draeck, which has been owned by Princess Beatrix for almost 66 years, has now undergone several rounds of renovation. The costs were higher than expected.

The maintenance was necessary due to corrosion due to wear and weather. Also, several systems on board were outdated, such as the electrical system and the gas installation, and the lemsteraak no longer met current safety requirements.

Cost

The costs and maintenance of the ship are the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence. But that no longer has the necessary knowledge and experience, writes the Royal House. The renovation was therefore carried out by a specialist shipyard.

Princess Beatrix paid the additional costs for the most recent renovation. The other costs for maintenance will remain at the expense of the Ministry of Defense, as long as the princess uses the ship. So she did that again today.
